Lastwrite

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it secure?

It is Lastwrite's number one goal to create a forum for people to express their final messages to loved ones with the comfort of knowing no information will be shared unless designated by the user. We have taken extreme caution in making sure all information entered in your account is securely protected. We use industry leading encryption methods and continue to safeguard your personal information as well as your Lastwrite. NOTE: Letters cannot be read by ANY individual other than the user. It is only when you have passed away that the letters can be read by the designated recipients. No other individuals have access to these letters.

Do letters Remain Private?

The creator of a message is the only individual that is able to view their messages until they are delivered. All messages can be created, edited and deleted as many times as you would wish.

How does it know when to send the Lastwrite?

We have created a database that is linked to the U.S. Social Security Office. A listing of expired social security numbers are uploaded to the database on a daily basis. Once there is a match, it knows to distribute your Lastwrites.

How long does it take for loved ones to receive a letter?

The offices of Social Security are notified of death approximately 1-3 days following ones passing. Once the Social Security Office has updated your death certificate and the database has been updated (approx.3-10 days), the Lastwrites are sent out immediately following.

Should I notify a loved one that a letter will be sent to them?

It is up to you to decide on whether you would like people to be notified that a letter will be sent. If you would like it to remain private then you would do so by indicating on you account that you wish your distribution list to remain private. If you would like us to notify your loved ones that a letter has been left behind, indicate that when creating your Lastwrite. An automatic message will be sent to the individuals indicating that a letter has been left behind. Please note that the actual letter is not sent out but simply an email stating that a letter has been left for them.

What if I don't have the correct email address?

We pride ourselves on remaining a secure and private forum to express yourself. It is up to the user to verify and/or log in to their account and update information as changes occur. You may do so at anytime and update information as necessary..

Can I find out if someone left me a letter?

Yes. Just click on the search tab found on the home page and enter in your email address. It will indicate the number of letters that match that address. You will not be able to view the letters. You will only be able to see if a letter has been left behind.

The default is set to send letters out immediately following ones passing. If the user wishes to change the default, he/she may specify a time period for a Lastwrite to be sent following their passing. The database will recognize your date of passing and send it out on the anniversary of your passing.
